Update 2021
Francis Chan -- Very good on unity!
PS: I read an interesting quote by CS Lewis, from Screwtape Letter 25 (pulled from an excellent daily devotional "The Business of Heaven"). A part of Francis Chan's talk, and some of the other stuff flying around these days about the divisions within, reminded me of it:
My Dear Wormwood,
The real trouble about the set your patient is living in is that it is merely Christian. They all have individual interests, of course, but the bond remains mere Christianity. What we want, if men become Christians at all, is to keep them in the state of mind I call “Christianity And”. You know — Christianity and the Crisis, Christianity and the New Psychology, Christianity and the New Order, Christianity and Faith Healing, Christianity and Psychical Research, Christianity and Vegetarianism, Christianity and Spelling Reform. If they must be Christians let them at least be Christians with a difference. Substitute for the faith itself some Fashion with a Christian colouring.
Frank
And as you brought out, “Christianity And” can be so deceptive. Seems like when it’s “Christianity and politics,” it just really leads to division and disunity, even in the church. Francis Chan said, “We don’t have to be like the world,” and that’s so true. Love should really make a difference in our lives, and in the lives of others. "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By *this* shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another" (John 13:34-35 KJV).
Anyway, lots of good stuff to comment on. His comments on having to leave HK almost sounded like a Family member. Thanks for sending it around, Mike!
