Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God (Mic. 6:8).
God has two dwellings; one in heaven, the other in a meek and thankful heart.

The End of Poverty

Devotional 1

by Danielle Strickland

The actual teaching is 38 minutes ... the end is an appeal for children in Malawi. There is though a very beautiful prayer of Imaginative Contemplation from 38:45 to 44:00 I found the prayer very moving.

Other great takeaways and topics covered:

The Great Reversal of the kingdom of God, the hungry shall be fed. “He has brought down rulers from their thrones and raised up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with nothing” (Luke 1:51-53).

These words are so powerful that the Mary Song (Magnificat) was banned over the centuries: “The Magnificat was banned being sung or read in India under British rule. In the 1980’s, it was banned in Guatemala. In addition, after the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo—whose children all disappeared during the Dirty War (1976-1983)—placed the Magnificat’s words on posters throughout the capital plaza, the military junta of Argentina outlawed any public display of Mary’s song.”

Jesus’s opening Manifesto, his first public teaching was to empower the poor: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free..."

No book preaches more about poverty and justice than the Bible.

There is a good part on Mohammed Yunus on Micro Crediting.

I found this CNN article how the vaccines have minted nine new pharma billionaires. Pfizer has already reaped hundreds of millions of dollars from the Covid Vaccine.

The world’s richest have become more powerful than nations and it is they who are running the world more and more, fulfilling the prophecy found in Revelation 18:23: "Your merchants were the world’s important people. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray."

It is great to see Churches getting involved in feeding the poor, clothing the naked as Jesus reminded us to do in Matthew 25. I know we cannot fully alleviate all the suffering of the poor, even Jesus said the "poor you have with you always." But it means so much to the poor that we do help. When wondering when the poverty and suffering would end, I was reminded of James warning to the rich who oppress the poor centuries ago and his advice to the poor was to be patient and wait for the Lord's return.

James 5:3-7: 3 You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming.

I believe that the rich and the wealthy nations could substantially alleviate poverty if they paid proper wages and invested more in education and agriculture instead of weapons.
