Are All “Conspiracy Theories” Weird?

Thots 9

(This is an older thread that was brought forward as a result of some similar discussions. Some of the discussion facts are dated, but it seems the points may be considerable.)

MB shared some highlights of an earlier back-and-forth email discussion re: Conspiracy Theories. For my part, the present crisis has got me a lot more tuned to the Scripture than I have in ages. Coupled with this, i will readily admit I am also skeptical of conspiracy theories that seem to be abounding. ...Maybe it’s because I was so tuned into these for years, and felt I needed a complete break; and/or the fact that a certain person still directs a whole lot of these to my personal family chat group (including the "aliens living amongst us" variety). Hence I have given this kind of thing a wide berth!

In fact, a few days ago this person passed a “conspiracy theory” to us that I listened to the first two minutes of, then dismissed. However a couple days later, something inspired me to decide to listen to more of it ... and I ended up finishing it.

... Only once I got to the part where the speaker was quoting Scripture very effectively IMO did I begin to drop my guard and fully tune in. [OK, so that’s my preface! I’ll now pass this on to you, and when you have 20 minutes to spare, I recommend you may want to give it a listen.] ...

BTW I don’t know if you have read anything about “bitchute” ... but originally seeing where this was hosted made me all the more suspicious when I first received it. Here’s Wikipedia on “bitchute”:

BitChute is a video hosting service founded in 2017. It was created to allow video uploaders to avoid content rules enforced on other platforms, such as YouTube. The platform accommodates far-right individuals and conspiracy theorists; with the Southern Poverty Law Center saying the site hosts "hate-fueled material". Some creators who have been banned or had their channels barred from receiving advertising revenue ("demonetized") on YouTube have migrated to BitChute.

I guess my point is the above pours even more “water on the sacrifice”, so to speak! lol!

For further irony, at least to my way of thinking, it was me happening to see an article on Fox News *denouncing* this whole “conspiracy theory” that actually got me interested in checking out this article that I had been sent (but never tuned in to)!

This is the same video that's been going around here, too ... probably everywhere. It's an interesting take on the 5G theory, but I think this guy's logic has some big holes in it, as does his research, or lack of it (he doesn't really document his statements and allegations). And he skips over other elements of the Coronavirus issue that have been documented, but which don't fit into, or disprove, what he's saying. Is it a case of "if you pound hard enough a lot of people will believe you?"

I think an article SD sent from The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/2020/4/9/21214750/5g-coronavirus-conspiracy-theories-radio-waves-virus-internet) makes a strong statement disputing the 5G-Coronavirus connection, as did the previous Reuters article (https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-coronavirus-5g/false-claim-5g-networks-are-making-people-sick-not-coronavirus-idUSKBN2133TI).

I don't know, but my personal opinion is that I'd encourage folks to give their time and attention to stuff like the answers John Lennox gave during his interview with Michael Ramsden posted under the Devotionals tab (Where Is God in a Coronavirus World?).

This guy’s theory on COVID and 5G is in many ways neither here-or-there, IMO.
I guess what struck me most is that this fellow, whoever it is that is doing the talking, seems to represent a Christian undergrounder who is “aware of the devil’s devices” and anti-Christ plan, and appears to be working with others to counter it. Plus alluding to the possibility that the chip/Mark of the Beast could be contained in the vaccine the whole world is anxiously awaiting. All this kind of brought “the End-time” into a closer timeframe somehow.
Guess it made me self-analyze if I was still “discerning the signs of the times” or being lulled asleep by the deception of the society in which I live, part of the very elect who could be possibly be deceived, etc. In any case,“Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep.” Romans 13:11

Good point, GM. I hadn't looked at it that way and how news like this brings the framework of EndTime events closer. That's a good thing. I guess my question then pertains to a Christian, maybe even inadvertently, giving themselves to something that (to me) is highly suspect ... the three fingers pointing back at me are some of the predictions I used to preach. :-)

While on the subject of conspiracy theories, here's an article someone just sent from the Fort Russ News website (hadn't heard of them before): https://www.fort-russ.com/2020/04/robert-f-kennedy-jr-exposes-bill-gates-vaccine-dictatorship-plan-cites-gates-twisted-messiah-complex/

I believe that this CV pandemic is real. It isn’t caused by 5G but perhaps possible that 5G weakens the immune system somewhat. I don’t know how CV got started and I don’t think that is all that important. Sure, if China released it on the world, or the US released it on China, or that it is all engineered by the WHO, or some such that would be important to know. But I believe the fact that it is rampant now is real and hard to dispute.

However, I think it is becoming more and more evident that “they” are going to use it to put more and more control on individuals. I don’t know who “they” are, but I think it is pretty obvious that it’s happening and has happened. Who would have thought 2 months ago that it would be possible to bring the whole world economy to a virtual standstill and to get almost every country around the world to move in lockstep?

I don’t really think that it is a Democrat vs Republican, a liberal vs conservative, a left vs right, a Christian vs whatever thing. There probably are elements of all of that, because it is good to dived people, but everyone has surrendered their personal freedom and rights and I really wonder how much of it will ever be regained? Probably none.

DH, I agree with you. I think you pegged it just right!

Just curious CH, what is your take on Viktor Orbán and his taking pretty much complete power in the wake of CV?

That's the question of the day ... maybe a sort of foreshadow of things to come? So far it's okay. The affects of the virus have been pretty well contained due to how the government's handled it, so so-far-so-good, some, but not many huge restrictions. From my distant perspective some folks think it's too dictatorial, others don't care because it's been pretty good and he's taking pretty good care of the country--maybe sort of like a benevolent dictator? The big question is what'll happen afterwards, when the "need" for total control has passed. Let's revisit the topic then ... I could have a whole different outlook. heh
